The 2015 Region 9 Conference of the North American Saxophone Alliance will be held at the University of Calgary from February 12-15, 2015. We are thrilled to announce that the special guest artist will be Jean-Michel Goury, saxophone teacher from the Conservatoire de Rayonnement Regional de Boulogne-Billancourt, France. He and his wife, Sophie Goury will be performing a duo recital on the evening of Saturday, February 14th, and Jean-Michel will also be hosting a master class.
Aside from a special guest saxophonist, we are also putting an emphasis on new music and collaboration with composers and other instrumentalists/media. We will have Robert Lemay, composer and professor at Laurentian University, as a composer in residence as well. In this role, he will be hosting a master class for saxophonists interpreting his pieces, as well as a master class for student composers for works that feature the saxophone.
As with previous conferences, we will be welcoming proposals for performances, lectures, workshops, and master classes, as well as evening performance opportunities. We will be sending out information for proposals by October 15th, proposals will be due by November 15th, and we will release the schedule in early December.
As this conference continues to take shape, please check our news page regularly for updates!
